The Outsiders

Photo Randy Vanderveen Rwanda A young boy peers through the window of a church to catch a glimpse of what is taking place inside the walls of the sanctuary.

There are so many in the world who are on the outside looking in — as individuals in society to entire areas of the globe (the developing world, especially in sub-Saharan Africa) – who are often forgotten as we go about our daily busyness of life.

We rush along swept up in what singer Wayne Watson calls: The Urgency (of the Generally Insignificant) forgetting about what really matters.

We need to take the time to see those around us who are on the outside looking in because of loneliness, depression, finances,  substance abuse, race, gender and age. We need to reach out and welcome them in because it is not only those on the outside who are poorer because of it — we are all a little poorer when we keep people out.
